In 1961, Chevrolet introduction the Super Sport package for the Impala models. It consisted of exterior and interior trim upgrades, as well as some mechanical improvments and a new high performance 409 V8 engine producing 360 bhp as an option. The 1961 Impala Sport Coupe was nick-named the "bubble top" because its rounded shape and massive amount of glass. For 1961, Chevrolet continued all their model names from 1960, except for the El Camino and Sedan Delivery.
