The 1958 model year saw the introduction of the new X-Frame design chassis. The following is an exerpt from John D. Robertsons book "A Pictorial History of Chevrolet 1958-1960".
"For the second time in three years, a completely new chassis supported Chevys. The new chassis eliminated the center portions of the side rails while beefing up the former X-brace to support the entire mid-section. The new frame was claimed to be 30 percent more rigid and the open areas at the side made it possible to lower the floors. Incorporated in the new frame was "Full Coil" suspension. The new four-link rear suspension was claimed to restrict rear-end lift and squat for a level ride."
