The sedan pick-up is a new model added to the line. Many station wagon panels are used to make up the sedan pick-up body. The sedan pick-up roof and door upper frame is different from the other models but the body front end, windshield, door lower panel, and vent window frame are the same as used for sedans. The tailgate is a station wagon tailgate with the key lock eliminated. The sedan pick-up underbody is the same as the six-passenger station wagon. The load floor is all metal and is attached with screws to provide access to the underbody in the event of repairs. the station wagons no longer have a lift gate, and the back window must be lowered into the tailgate before the tailgate can be opened. On six passenger station wagons, a folding crank is provided to lower the window. When the window is fully lowered, the tailgate can be opened by reaching inside and lifting a latch. The latch is locked-out so the tailgate cannot be opened unless the window is fully down. Nine passenger station wagons include electrical operation of the tailgate window as regular production. The electrically operated window is controlled by turning the key on the outside or by a switch inside the body, in the rear seat area. There is also a control switch on the instrument panel when the tailgate window is electrically operated. The tailgate window regulator is a double sector and lift arm regulator, on both the manual and electrically operated window. The lift arms attach to right and left lower sash channel cams. The glass run channels support the glass and provide |
fore and aft adjustment at the top of the glass An electrically operated tailgate window is also available as an RPO for six passenger station wagons except on 1200 series. This is a separate RPO from the electric side window option. The 39 style body (Sport Sedan) features a back glass of new wrap around design. On installation, the 39 style back window has sealer applied to the body opening rather than the rubber channel. A bead of sealer is also applied across the lower edge of the rubber channel (under the lower reveals) after the glass is installed. Rubber checking blocks similar to those used for windshields are to be used when replacing the back glass. Body bolts on all vehicles have been increased from 3/8" diameter to 7/16" diameter. The new bolt installation torque is 25 to 35 ft. lbs. All exterior paint with the exception of the wheels and bumper valance panels is the new Acrylic Lacquer, in all colors. The wheels and bumper valance panels are finished in baked enamel. Wheels and valance panels must be refinished with either enamel or standard lacquer. The two-way electric seat option i available in all series except the 1200. When using a bumper jack t lift either the front or rear end of 1959 passenger cars, care should be taken in jack placement, to avoid contact of the jack lifting block with the sheet metal valance panels located below the vehicle bumpers.
