Because of a new mounting arrangement for both the air compressor rand generator, when adjusting the air compressor belt tension, both generator brace attaching bolts must be loosened to prevent over-tensioning the generator belt. After proper compressor belt tension is achieved, generator belt tension can then be reset without affecting compressor belt tension. Wheels and Tires7.50 x 14-4 ply rating tires are used as standard equipment on all models except Station Wagon, Sedan Delivery, and Convertible, which are equipped with 8.00 x 14-4 ply rating tires. The new Sedan Pick-Up is equipped with 8.00 x 14-4 ply tires. All wheels used have large cut-outs in the disc portion to permit circulation of air over the entire outer surface of the brake drum. Past models wheels should not be installed on 1959 vehicles, because of the reduced brake cooling that would result. Oversize tires are offered in 8.00 and 8.50 sizes. The 8.5 tire options include 14 x 5 1.2 J wheels. Bright metal hubcaps are provided on all models for 1959. Full-width wheel discs are available as a factory option or as an accessory. These discs have ventilation slots at their outer diameter to provide air-flow for brake cooling. Normally, watery mud will spread out evenly around the wheel disc due to centrifugal force, and will not cause an out-of-balance condition. |
however, a car which is parked in freezing weather after a run in soft mud could possibly suffer an unbalanced wheel condition. CORVETTERear SuspensionA new feature for the 1959 Corvette is the addition of radius rods to the rear suspension. The radius rods (Fig. 3) provide greater vehicle stability and increased traction. |
